Bahamas Duty Rates 2026: What Has Changed Since 2023

Published 2026-07-01 · updated 2026-10-08

The Bahamas Tariff Act (schedule version 2026-2027) took effect on 2026-07-01. duty242's rates start from the Bahamas Tariff Act as published in 2023, all 6,702 lines of it, with the changes Parliament has made since applied on top: the Tariff (Amendment) Acts of 2024, 2025 and 2026, each in force from 1 July of its year. 66 of the lines people most often import have also been checked by hand against the current schedule, the Customs "Frequently Imported Items" brochure and the Customs Tariff Search tool, and are tagged verified wherever they appear on the site.

Rate changes on everyday goods

Between them, the amendments changed the duty rate on 96 tariff lines. These are the ones that cover things people commonly import:

  • Screws, nuts and bolts (7318.1500): duty-free, down from 20% (2025)
  • Fridge-freezers with a separate freezer door (8418.1000): 35%, up from duty-free (2024)
  • Refrigerators without a separate freezer door (8418.2100): duty-free, down from 5% (2024)
  • Vacuum cleaners (8508.1100): 35%, down from 45% (2025)
  • Blenders, mixers and juicers (8509.4000): 35%, down from 45% (2025)
  • Electric shavers, clippers and trimmers (8510.1010): 35%, down from 45% (2025)

On a $100 blender, the drop from 45% to 35% takes $11 off the import charges: $10 less duty, and $1 less VAT charged on that duty.

The rest are mostly building materials (cement, copper fittings, roofing, plastic profiles and fibreglass rebar), cleaning products, bed linen, drones, soft drinks, dried fruit, wigs and plastic kitchenware. Fridge-freezers went the other way in 2024, but since July 2025 the most energy-efficient models can come in duty-free under a concession; the appliances guide explains the conditions.

Fees and levies

The customs processing fee is still 1% of the value with a $10 minimum, but its maximum rose to $1,500 on 1 July 2026 (it was $1,000). It only reaches the cap on entries worth more than $150,000.

The environmental levy is a fixed amount per item, set by the Customs Management Regulations rather than the Tariff Act: $5 for a computer, printer, phone, television or microwave, $10 for an air conditioner, and $15 for a refrigerator or washing machine. Most goods carry none.

If you were charged a different rate

A Customs assessment is the best evidence there is. If you were charged a rate that differs from the one shown here, send me the product and the rate on your assessment, and I'll check the line and update it.
