What the extension collects

When you view an Amazon or eBay product page, the extension sends to our server only: the product's ASIN or eBay item number, title, category breadcrumbs, displayed price, item weight, and (on Amazon) the Import Fees Deposit amount shown on the page. It also sends an anonymous random install identifier, used to enforce the free-tier daily limit and to count how many distinct installs are in use (see Lookup statistics below), and, if extraction fails, a minimal failure report (which extraction step failed; never page content).

What it does not collect

No cookies, no browsing history, no purchases, no names, no email addresses, no Amazon or eBay account data. The extension reads only the Amazon or eBay product page you are actively viewing, and requests permissions for amazon.com and ebay.com only.

The public catalog

Product lookups populate a public catalog of product data only (ASIN or eBay item number, title, classification, observed prices, aggregate view counts). No user identifier is ever associated with a catalog entry, so the site cannot and does not reveal who looked anything up.

Lookup statistics

When a product is looked up, from the extension or the website, our server reports the lookup to Google Analytics: the anonymous install identifier (for a website lookup, a pseudonymous identifier derived from your IP address), the approximate location the request came from (country, region and city), and the marketplace and product category involved. These measurements are sent from our server, not from your browser. Google does not receive your IP address, the product page or its URL, and the extension itself loads no analytics code.

We also keep our own log of lookups to see how the site and the extension are used: the product, Amazon or eBay, whether the lookup came from the extension or the website, the extension version and the country. To count distinct users without knowing who they are, each entry carries a salted one-way hash of the anonymous install identifier (for a website lookup, of your IP address). The hash cannot be turned back into the identifier or the address, and it is cleared after 180 days.

Cookies, analytics and advertising on the website

duty242.com uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It runs in your browser and sets cookies (named _ga and similar) so that one visit can be told apart from the next. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

The site also loads Google AdSense and may show ads from it. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.

Your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and is never sent to us.

Links to Amazon and eBay

Outbound "View on eBay" and "View on Amazon" links are plain product links that carry no affiliate or tracking parameter, and no eBay Partner Network script is loaded on any page. When you look a product up, duty242 uses the eBay Browse API to read public listing data; that request is made by our server and identifies this site to eBay, not you.

Forwarder price reports

The report form asks about one shipment: the forwarder, the island, air or sea, the date it shipped, its weight and box size, what the forwarder charged, and optionally how long it took, the value you declared and the customs charges you paid. It does not ask for, and you should not enter, your name, address, account number or tracking number. Reports are reviewed before they count, and the site only ever publishes combined figures (such as the median of several reports), never a single report.

To stop spam, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that runs in your browser and is processed by Cloudflare under its privacy policy. Your IP address is not stored. Instead the site keeps a one-way, salted hash of it, used only to limit how many reports one connection can send in a day and to spot repeated submissions. That hash is cleared from each report after 180 days.

The form for asking that a forwarder be added takes the business's name, its website, the islands it serves and an optional note. It is protected the same way, with Turnstile and a salted hash of your IP address that is cleared after 180 days, and nothing you type there is published.

If you sent a report and want it deleted, write through the contact page with the forwarder, the date it shipped and the amounts, so the report can be found.
